I could not be here last weekend for our Pumpkin Festival. Sadly I attended my dear Aunt Gladys’s funeral in Michigan that day.
But if seems like life is not so perfect, it sure was perfect here in Ottertail for our 11th Pumpkin Festival. Reports were of perfect weather, an astonishing team of volunteers (Keith, Sharon, Dave, Woody, Ruth & Lori) and the energetic staff in the store (Dianne, Elfie, Karen, Gail & Christie) all working together.
The total cash donations for the event were $1,794.50…wow, that’s a lot of pumpkins carved (thanks to Kirk & Deb Buehler’s pumpkin farm)…and a lot of brats grilled (thanks to All Seasons Heating, 1St National Bank, & Ottertail Home Center)…music sang…Pumpkin desserts eaten (thanks to The Methodist Church Ladies)…and faces painted (thanks to Pat Kingston & Teri Watkins)…and buggy rides taken (thanks to the Ottertail Lions Club).
It costs the BackPack Program about $144 per child per year to participate in getting a pack filled with food for a kid to take home each weekend. So your generous donations that day helped raise enough money to feed 12+ kids every week for ONE YEAR.
If you thought you were just carving a pumpkin or eating a brat…no…that money you threw in the jar went to work for you. And if that sad weekend for me left a hole in my heart….when I came back to Ottertail that hole filled up again with the joy of what you all had done.
